Hello, my name's Mared Evans and I'm the Vice President: Activities and Development of Oxford Brookes Students' Union for the year 2007/08.
I am here to make your life regarding societies, activities and sports as easy as possible so you can enjoy your time at Brookes to the full.
You can find me either in the Activities Office by the front door of the SU, my office in the Exec Corridor or out and about on our Go Out And Listen (GOAL) days.
I am also available by email on obsu.activities@brookes.ac.uk and telephone on 01865 484783.
Do not hesitate to get in touch if you have queries of any sort!
- To ensure the provision of financial support for those sports teams which do not currently receive support from the Sports Centre and to lobby on their behalf throughout the year.
- To arrange a RAG week either in Semester 1 or Semester 2 involving not less than 100 students as active participants and to increase the amount of money raised for charities compared to previous years.
- To increase participation in student union activities by 20% by the end of my term of office.
- To support the STAX project by attending at least two monthly meetings and working closely the Student Advice and Activities Manager on student volunteering.
How to start a society and get affiliated...
Starting A New Society!
If there's not a society at Brookes that you want to join then it's easy...start your own! All you need is the name and student number of a proposer and seconder, 15 students interested, a completed Schedule 9 and a name for the society.
Pick up a 'Society Constitution and Regulations' form from the my office in the exec corridor or the Activities Office (next to the SU reception) and return it to me a week and a half before the next Societies Executive meeting.
Getting Your Society Affiliated
The proposed society is taken to the Union General Meeting to be affiliated. The proposer of the society is given 2 minutes to say why they want to set it up, after which anyone who wants to argue against the proposal is also given 2 minutes to speak. After questions from students it may go to another round of proposing (this is very rare) before it is put to the vote!
If voted in favour, the society will then be officially affiliated! It's then up to you (with a little help from me) to get together a committee, hold some meetings and organise some events!
For any help feel free to pop in and see me in my office, the Activities Office or email me at the link above! Good luck!
